Land Surveyors Outreach Program in Powell, WY
Professional Cody Schatz, PELS and another associate from Engineering Associates Consulting Engineers and Surveyors, headed out to Powell Middle School to visit 150 6th grade students. The 150 students were split into two groups and taught about land surveying in everyday life. While half learned how to pace and use a map and/or metal detector to find five (5) hidden nails in a grass field the other half spent 20 minutes learning about property survey and GPS systems. Including how fast many satellites are and how many times they circle the earth each day, the students then used a survey grade GPS to find hidden coins in a football field.
"We had good feedback from both the students and the teachers doing these exercises." -Cody Schatz, PELS.
